Get and search JSON paths
Paste JSON or open a UTF-8 file, then use JSONPath to search for values if needed. Leaving the query blank displays all values. Check the original text of the selected value and its paths in JSONPath, JavaScript, Python, jq and lodash. Copy the displayed path, or save all 5 formats for that value as TXT.
What you can do
Check values and paths together
Display values in JSON with their paths, types and short previews. You can also check the original text of the selected value.
Search for values with JSONPath
Search with expressions for values such as those within arrays. Leaving the expression blank lists values contained throughout the JSON.
Obtain paths in 5 formats
Choose a representation from JSONPath, JavaScript, Python, jq or lodash and copy it. Save all 5 formats for the selected value as text.
How to use
Enter JSON
Paste JSON or select 1 UTF-8 JSON file. You can also try using the sample.
Enter a query if needed, then display
Enter JSONPath to find specific values, then press Show paths. Leave it blank to check all values.
Select a value and obtain its paths
Select a value from the list and check its original text. Choose a format and copy it, or save all 5 formats for that value together.
Useful when
Extract values from API responses
Check where a needed value is located in a nested response and prepare its path for use in a script.
Find values in arrays that meet conditions
Search arrays of products or aggregate data with JSONPath, then check the matching values and their exact locations.
Reading JSON positions and paths
Starting point and array indices
In JSONPath, $ is the starting point for the entire JSON. Array indices start at 0, so [0] refers to the first element.
Values in the list and the original JSON
Previews of object and array show the number of items they contain. Select a value to check its original text. false, 0 and null are each existing values.
Path notation differs by language
JavaScript and Python examples use a variable named data. jq and lodash use their respective notation. Adapt the copied representation to the variable names and processing where you will use it.
Display again after changing input or query
Editing the input or changing the query removes the previous list and selection. Press Show paths with the new contents. Moving between pages alone preserves the value being reviewed.
When JSON cannot be searched
Expression-based searches are stopped for JSON with duplicate key names or numbers that cannot be searched safely. Leave the expression blank to check the original values and representations in a list.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use all JSONPath syntax?
Property and array references, and searches using conditions, are supported. If an expression cannot be used, an error is displayed; revise the expression. Compliance with all RFC syntax is not guaranteed.
What if field names contain spaces or symbols?
Paths are displayed with field names in quotation marks and necessary symbols escaped. Copy the displayed path as it is, and check the notation where you will use it.
My search returned 0 results.
Even if JSON input succeeds, the result is 0 if no values match the expression. Revise the expression or leave it blank to check all values.
Are there limits on searching or display?
Results are displayed in groups of 50. Queries are limited to 2,000 characters and results to 1,000 items. If results exceed the limit, an error is displayed instead of showing only some results, so narrow the conditions. Reduce the input size if processing takes too long.
Which paths are saved?
The 5 formats for 1 selected value—JSONPath, JavaScript, Python, jq and lodash—are saved in json-paths.txt. This operation does not save the paths of all items in the JSON.
Can I use JSON with comments or trailing commas?
Enter standard JSON. Comments or trailing commas cause an error. This screen does not repair or format JSON.
