Archive creator

Combine files and folders into one archive. Review the contents, choose an output format, and set compression or a password when needed before downloading.

Add files

Add the files and folders you want to combine. Existing archives are stored as files without extracting their contents.

Combine all selected files and folders into one archive, preserving their folder structure.

ZIP and 7Z support a password. GZ, BZ2 and XZ are available for a single file without folders.

Advanced settings
Leave blank if the new archive does not need a password.

What you can do

Combine files into one archive

Package documents, images and folders into one file for sharing or storage.

Keep the folder structure

Review each file's relative path and preserve folders in output formats that support them.

Choose compression and a password

Adjust compression where supported, and add a password to a ZIP or 7Z archive when needed.

How to use

  1. Add files and folders

Select the files you want to package together. Folder selection is available in supported browsers.

  2. Review the contents

Check the files and their paths. Rename files or reorganize folders first if two entries would have the same archive path.

  3. Choose the output format

ZIP is selected initially. Open advanced settings only if you want to adjust compression or set an output password.

  4. Create and download

Create one archive and download it as archive.zip or the matching extension. Depending on the contents, the result may be larger than the original files.

When this is useful

Send a set of documents

Keep documents and images together in a single archive for the recipient.

Store a folder as one file

Package a folder and its subfolders while preserving their structure.

Archiving and compression

Combining files and reducing size are different

An archive packages files and folders into one file. Compression reduces the amount of data. TAR packages files without compressing them.

Folder paths and metadata

Folder inputs retain their relative paths. Empty folders, dates and permissions depend on the information the browser supplies and the chosen format.

Settings depend on the format

ZIP and 7Z support an output password. TAR and this tool's RAR output store files without compression. TAR.Z uses fixed compression. GZ, BZ2 and XZ accept one file without folders.

Existing archives stay intact

An added ZIP or another archive is stored as a file without extracting its contents. Use Archive converter to change an existing archive's format.

Frequently asked questions

Can I keep subfolders?

Yes, when the output format supports folders. Review the selected files and paths before creating the archive. Folder input also depends on your browser.

Will a higher compression level always make the archive smaller?

No. Results depend on the contents, and higher levels can take longer. Start with the standard level of 5. Images and videos may compress very little.

Can I add a password?

Choose ZIP or 7Z to set an output password. Leave the field blank if you do not need one. Other output formats do not support this setting.

How do I change an existing ZIP to another format?

Use Archive converter. Archive creator packages selected files into one new archive.
