Markdown table generator
Edit the table directly, or enter CSV, TSV, or Markdown to adjust headers and text alignment. Changes to the table are reflected in the Markdown, and you can copy the result or save it as a Markdown file.
What you can do
Create a table by editing cells
Paste multiple cells from spreadsheet software, then add rows and columns to arrange the table.
Edit again from CSV or Markdown
Change the contents and column text alignment of an imported table, then export it as Markdown.
How to use
Enter a table
Enter directly into cells, or choose the CSV or Markdown input view. You can also paste spreadsheet data into cells.
Arrange rows and columns
Add using the + at the end. Open the relevant header to delete that row or column or change column text alignment.
Check headers and contents
Choose whether to use the first row as a header. Open the table preview if needed to check the contents.
Get the Markdown
Cell changes are reflected in the result automatically. Copy it or save it as table.md.
Useful for
Add a table to a README
Edit lists of steps or items and paste them into documents that support Markdown.
Transfer spreadsheet data
Load a copied range or CSV, then arrange and export the rows and columns needed for the document.
Markdown table headers and syntax
Header and separator rows
This format places a separator row after the header. Turn off “Use first row as header” to add an empty header row and treat every input row as body content.
Column text alignment
Choose left, center, or right from the column menu. This is reflected in the Markdown separator row, and text aligns in viewers that support it.
Vertical bars and line breaks inside cells
Vertical bars inside cells are converted to a form that cannot be confused with separators, and line breaks become <br>. Also check whether the destination supports displaying line breaks.
The difference between text and Markdown
Direct input, CSV, and TSV treat symbols as text. Tables loaded from Markdown preserve syntax such as bold formatting. The table preview is for checking cell contents.
Frequently asked questions
Can I paste from Excel or a spreadsheet?
Yes. Paste a copied range into the table cells to import it as rows and columns. You can also paste tab-separated text to apply it to the whole table.
Can I insert line breaks inside a cell?
Yes. Enter moves to the cell below. Press Enter with Alt, Ctrl, or Command to insert a line break inside the cell.
Does switching input tabs change the table?
Switching alone does not change it. Select “Apply to table” for the source text to replace the whole table. Files are loaded after selection.
How large a table can I work with?
The limits are 100 rows, 20 columns, and 1,000 cells total. Each cell can contain up to 500 characters, and the whole table up to 50,000 characters. Input that exceeds the limits is not applied, and the previous table is kept.
Can I preview bold text and links?
The table preview displays syntax such as bold and links as text too. Check the final formatting and links where you use the Markdown.
