Business & working day counter
Count business days between a start and end date, or find the date a specified number of business days before or after a starting date. Account for national or regional holidays, weekly days off, and individual working or non-working days. Check the daily breakdown and copy it as a table or CSV.
What you can do
Calculate day counts and dates before or after a starting date
Use the same holiday conditions to find how many days in a date range are business days, or the date a specified number of business days before or after a starting date.
Match your workplace's days off
Combine national and regional public holidays, weekly non-working days, and additional non-working or business days. Even a normal holiday is counted as a business day if you specify it as an additional business day.
Check and save the reason for each day
Select a calendar date to check why it was counted that way. You can copy daily details and the public holiday list separately as tables or CSV, and save CSV with a summary included.
How to use
Choose the result you need
Choose whether to count business days in a range or find a date a number of business days before or after a starting date, then enter the dates or number of days. For a date range, also check whether to include either end.
Set public holidays and non-working days
Select the country or region for public holidays. If needed, use “Holiday and exception settings” to change weekly non-working days or workplace-specific exceptions.
Calculate and check the date breakdown
Check the main result and the number of days included in the calculation. Select a date in the calendar to see why it is a business or non-working day and the public holiday's confirmation status.
Copy or save CSV
Use “Copy” in the daily details to select table or CSV format. If you only need public holidays, open “Public holidays in the range” to copy them. Save CSV to include the summary as well.
Useful when
Check a month's working days
Count business days from the start to the end of a month. Company-specific non-working days and Saturday workdays can also be added as exceptions.
Plan using business days
Find a date a number of business days after the starting date, counting from the following day. When counting backward, you can find the date a specified number of business days earlier.
How counted days and days off are determined
The difference between range endpoints and a starting date
By default, date-range counts include both the start and end dates. When finding a date before or after a specified number of business days, the starting date is not counted; only a value of 0 business days returns the starting date itself.
Weekly non-working days and regional public holidays are separate conditions
Even after selecting a country for public holidays, weekly non-working days are specified separately. Weekly non-working days and added exception dates still apply even when public holidays are not excluded.
When exceptions and holidays overlap
Additional business days take highest priority. The day category is then determined in the order of additional non-working days, weekly non-working days, public holidays, and Japanese year-end and New Year closures. A date is not counted twice even if these overlap, and the holiday name remains in the details.
Also check each holiday's confirmation status
Dates confirmed by official announcements are distinguished from dates calculated by rules. If a country requires annual announcements for extended holidays or substitute working days, use additional non-working and business days to match the actual schedule.
Frequently asked questions
Are the start and end dates also counted?
When counting days in a date range, you can specify each with its checkbox. If the start and end dates are the same and you want to count that day, include both. When calculating a date a number of business days before or after a starting date, the starting date is not counted.
Can I specify company-specific non-working days or special business days?
Yes. Open the holiday and exception settings and enter one date per line in YYYY-MM-DD format. The same date cannot be entered as both an additional non-working day and an additional business day.
If a public holiday falls on a weekend, is the non-working day counted twice?
They are not counted twice. Each date is assigned a single day category for counting, while the holiday name and confirmation status remain in the date details. If you make a public holiday an additional business day, it is counted as a business day.
Are all national and regional public holidays confirmed?
They are not necessarily confirmed. Each holiday is marked as confirmed by an official announcement, calculated by rules, official schedule unverified, or estimated from observations or similar methods. A partial-day holiday does not exclude a full business day as a public holiday. It is a non-working day if it also falls on a weekly non-working day or an additional non-working day.
How do the Japanese banking and government agency settings differ?
In this tool's settings, in addition to weekends and public holidays, banking schedules treat December 31–January 3 as non-working days, and government agency schedules treat December 29–January 3 as non-working days. The year-end and New Year settings apply from 2020 onward, and workplace-specific schedules can be added as exceptions.
What calculation range is supported?
Dates from 1970 to 2080 are supported. A date range must have a difference of no more than 3,660 days between its start and end dates. The number of business days to count forward or backward must be an integer from 0 to 3,660, and the resulting date must be found within 3,660 calendar days and within the supported years.
Does clicking a calendar date change the holiday settings?
No. Selecting a date lets you check why it was counted that way. To change business or non-working days, change the conditions in the holiday and exception settings and calculate again.
