Number scale converter
Specify a value and the source and target scale units to convert between 万, 億, thousand, million, billion, trillion and more. View the converted value, the full number without abbreviations, and a guide to reading the rounded number separately. Copy all the results together or save them as TXT.
What you can do
Convert Japanese and English large-number units
Convert between 万, 億, and units such as thousand, million, billion, and trillion as different ways of expressing the same number.
Distinguish exact numbers from readings
Check the converted value and the full number. The short reading in the display language is shown separately as a guide that includes rounding.
How to use
Enter the number and source unit
Specify the number in your source document and the large-number unit in which it is written.
Choose the target unit
Choose the unit you want to check, such as from million to 億. The setting to include 万 and 億 in the options is in advanced settings.
Check the converted value and full number
Press “Convert.” Check the numbers and units in the results, then copy or save all results as needed.
Useful when
Interpret large numbers in overseas documents
Use it when you want to read counts and other numbers written in million or billion in units of 万 or 億.
Standardize number notation for documents
Check the same number as a value with a unit and as the full digits. You can also check digits that a short reading alone does not show.
Differences in large-number units and notation
万 and 億 versus million and billion
万 is 10⁴, 億 is 10⁸, and million is 10⁶. English units use the short scale, with billion corresponding to 10⁹ and trillion to 10¹².
Unit conversion and currency conversion are separate
This page changes the large-number unit of a number. It does not convert the value of currencies such as yen or dollars or retrieve exchange rates.
Short readings are a guide
“Reading in the display language” includes rounded notation. Use “Full number” when you need to check the exact digits.
Frequently asked questions
How many 億 is 1 billion?
In the short scale used by this tool, it is 10 億. Check the meaning of the units in your source as well, then specify the source and target units.
Can I enter decimals and negative numbers?
Yes. You can enter decimals, negative numbers, and scientific notation using half-width characters. Do not include units or comma thousands separators in the number field; specify the unit in the selection field.
Is the input value converted when I change the source unit?
The input string is kept unchanged and treated as a number in the newly selected unit. Check the converted number in the result field.
What if 万 and 億 are missing from the options?
Turn ON “Use 万 and 億 units” in advanced settings. This toggle resets the input and results to their initial state. It is ON by default in Japanese.
