Convert SRT to VTT

Choose one UTF-8 SRT subtitle file and convert it to WebVTT for web video. Review the text and start and end times, optionally check how it appears with a local video, then save a UTF-8 subtitle file. Format conversion does not change subtitle timings.

SRT / one file

Subtitle text and display times stay the same.

What you can do

WebVTT is selected for saving

Choose an SRT file to start converting it to WebVTT. You can change the save format if needed.

Review the text and timings

Review the loaded subtitles in a list. Format conversion does not shift their timings.

How to use it

  1. Choose the original subtitles

Choose one SRT file. It is read as UTF-8.

  2. Review the contents and save format

Review the subtitle text and timings, and check that WebVTT is selected for saving.

  3. Create and save the subtitle file

Select Create subtitle file, then use Save subtitles to download the created file.

When to use it

Add subtitles to web video

Convert subtitles received as SRT into a format for video players that support WebVTT.

Deliver subtitles as a separate file

Deliver subtitles to someone who requires WebVTT, without exporting the video again.

What changes from SRT to WebVTT

Convert the format, not just the extension

The output uses the WebVTT header and timing syntax. The tool does more than rename the extension from .srt to .vtt.

Check how subtitles appear where the video is published

Conversion preserves the text and line breaks. Check how styling and other display details appear in the player you will use.

Frequently asked questions

Will subtitle timings shift?

Format conversion does not change start and end times. It does not automatically synchronize subtitles that are already out of sync with the video.

Do I also need a video file?

The subtitle file is enough for conversion. Choose a local video only if you want to check how the subtitles appear in it.

What filename is used when saving?

The file keeps its original name with the extension of the selected format. For example, paper-fold.srt becomes paper-fold.vtt.
