Formats such as MP4 are file formats; H.264 and similar codecs are video compression methods. Choose the file format first, and change the codec in advanced settings if needed.

Video

0 means automatic. If you specify one dimension, the other is calculated from the aspect ratio. If you specify both, the video is fitted while preserving its aspect ratio, with margins added.

Lower numbers mean higher quality. 0 fps means automatic.

0 uses the quality setting. Specifying a value gives bitrate priority over the quality setting.

Audio

Files with individual settings retain those settings even when you change the common settings.

What you can do

Convert to a video format suited to the destination

Select a file format and convert. Specify formats such as MP4 separately from video codecs such as H.264.

Shared settings and per-file settings

Choose whether to use shared settings for multiple videos or change the format or quality only for specific files.

Adjust resolution and quality too

Adjust video dimensions, quality, audio, and other options in advanced settings, then save the finished files individually or as a ZIP.

How to use

  1. Add videos

Select the videos to convert. You can also add multiple files together.

  2. Choose the format and required settings

Select the shared output format. To change settings for only some files, open their individual settings.

  3. Save conversion results

Run the conversion, review the finished files, and save them. Even if some fail, you can save the successfully converted files.

Useful when

Use a format supported by the destination

If the submission destination or playback environment has requirements, convert to a supported file format.

Match dimensions for submission or publication

Specify the required width, height, or video quality to create a video that meets the destination's requirements.

Differences between format, codec, and resolution

MP4 and H.264 are separate settings

MP4 is a file format containing video and audio; H.264 is a method for compressing video. You can select only methods compatible with the selected format.

Dimensions and quality also affect file size

Settings such as resolution and quality change the finished appearance and file size. Specifying both width and height fits the video within the frame while preserving its aspect ratio and adding padding.

Individual settings are independent of shared settings

Files with individual settings retain those settings even if you later change the shared settings. Returning to shared settings uses the shared values at that time.

Frequently asked questions

Do MP4 and H.264 mean the same thing?

No. File formats such as MP4 differ from video codecs such as H.264 or HEVC. Select the format first, then change the codec in advanced settings if needed.

Can I change the resolution along with the format?

Yes. You can specify width and height in advanced settings. If both are 0, the original dimensions are used; if only one is 0, it is calculated automatically from the aspect ratio.
