AVIF to PNG
Convert AVIF images to PNG while preserving their existing transparent areas, making them usable for document creation and image editing. Add multiple files, specify dimensions if needed, check the result and file size, then save files individually or as a ZIP. The defaults are original dimensions and the first frame as a still image; conversion may increase file size.
What you can do
Use AVIF in PNG-compatible environments
Send images saved as PNG to editing software or submission destinations that do not accept AVIF.
Save while preserving transparency
You can preserve transparent areas in the original image. The checkerboard used to indicate transparency is not included in the saved image.
How to use
Add images
Select AVIF files or add them from a folder.
Check output settings
PNG is already selected. Open advanced settings only if needed to change dimensions.
Convert & save
Check the resulting images, dimensions and file sizes, then save them. You can also get multiple results as a ZIP.
When this is useful
Use transparent assets in documents
Use transparent AVIF assets in document software that supports PNG.
Send images to editing software
Import PNG into software that cannot read AVIF and continue your existing work.
What conversion changes & what it keeps
Conversion for format support rather than smaller files
AVIF is a space-efficient format. Converting to PNG may increase file size.
Preserving transparency & removing a background are separate
Only existing transparent areas can be preserved. This does not automatically make a photo's background transparent.
Frequently asked questions
Are existing transparent areas preserved?
They are preserved by default. If the original has no transparent areas, the image remains opaque.
Is animation also preserved in PNG?
The default for this purpose saves the first frame as a still image.
Does converting to PNG restore image quality?
Details lost in AVIF are not restored. Check the preview after conversion.
