Get and change image aspect ratio
Check an image's aspect ratio and change it to a specified ratio by cropping, adding padding or stretching. Check the result and save as PNG, JPEG or WebP.
What you can do
Check original dimensions and ratio
View the width, height and reduced aspect ratio.
Choose from 3 methods
Choose cropping, adding margins or stretching, and save as PNG, JPEG or WebP.
How to use
Choose an image
Select one JPEG, PNG, WebP or static SVG and check the original dimensions and ratio.
Specify the ratio and fit
Set the new aspect ratio and output width, then choose cropping, margins or stretching.
Adjust the position if needed
Adjust crop or margin position, crop zoom, transparency and background color in advanced settings.
Create and save the image
Check the result in the preview. Change settings and recreate it if needed.
Useful when
Fit a publishing frame
Fit a square or wide publishing frame, crop the part you want to show, and save.
Keep the whole image when placing it
Add margins to create an image with the specified ratio without changing the original shapes.
3 ways to change the ratio
Cropping removes part of the image
Preserve the original shape while removing parts outside the frame of the specified ratio. Adjust position and zoom in advanced settings.
Margins keep the whole image
Fit the whole image and fill unused areas with transparency or the background color.
Stretching also changes shapes
Width and height are adjusted to the specified ratio, so people or shapes change shape if the original ratio differs.
Ratio and output size are different
Even at the same 1:1 ratio, 512×512 and 1024×1024 have different pixel counts. Output height is calculated from width and ratio and rounded to an integer.
Frequently asked questions
Can I change the ratio without cropping?
Choose “Add margins” to keep the whole image. Margins can be transparent or use a background color.
Can I save with transparent margins?
Choose “Preserve transparency” with PNG or WebP. JPEG fills transparent areas with the background color.
Does making it larger improve image quality?
Enlarging does not add detail absent from the original. Check the saved image at the size where you will use it.
How is this different from the aspect ratio calculator?
This tool loads an image and saves it with a changed ratio. To calculate ratios or dimensions from numbers only, use the aspect ratio calculator.
