Color notation and conversion limits
HEX and RGB
RGB represents red, green and blue as values from 0 to 255. HEX writes these channels in hexadecimal. Enter three or six digits; output uses six uppercase digits.
HSL and HSV
Both use hue and saturation, but HSL lightness and HSV brightness are different quantities. Do not treat their values as interchangeable.
CMYK is an estimate
This is a simple calculation without an ICC profile. It does not account for paper, ink or printers, and does not replace print preparation or color proofing.
Precision and conversion
Calculations use opaque 8-bit sRGB. RGB is displayed as integers; HSL, HSV and CMYK are displayed to one decimal place (HSV values include ° and %). Rounding and calculation methods mean values may not match exactly after converting to another format and back.
Questions and answers
Can I use the CMYK values directly for printing?
They are estimates. Check them in your design software against the actual printing conditions and required profile.
Can I convert colors with alpha?
Alpha is not supported. Enter opaque color values rather than four- or eight-digit HEX, RGBA or similar formats.
What happens if I switch models with incomplete input?
A valid input switches using its color. An incomplete input uses the last confirmed color and clears the conversion result.
Can I use HSV directly in CSS?
HSV and estimated CMYK are numeric references. Choose HEX, RGB or HSL when copying a value directly into CSS.
