Understanding text comparison

OCR recognizes text in images

OCR reads text in images. Small text, complex backgrounds and other image conditions can lead to recognition errors.

The comparison uses recognition results

Differences can include changes in the original and recognition errors. Check the source images as well.

Empty lines and surrounding whitespace are ignored

The comparison trims both ends of each line and ignores empty lines. Different line breaks can still produce differences.

A separate comparison from appearance

This page does not determine changes in pixels, layout or photo metadata. Use image comparison for visual changes.

Frequently asked questions

Can I compare text when the appearance differs?

Text can be compared if it can be recognized. Formatting and image quality can affect recognition.

Where can I see the recognized text?

Both full results appear under Recognized text. Open the source images if you need to check them.

Does no added or removed text mean the originals match?

The comparison uses recognized text with surrounding whitespace and empty lines removed. Check the images to confirm that recognition is correct.

What if no text is recognized?

No recognized text is shown separately from loading or recognition failures. Check the source image and try a clearer image if needed.
