JPG to WebP
Convert JPG and JPEG photos to images for a WebP-compatible website. Add multiple photos from files or folders, adjust dimensions or quality if needed, check the result and file size, then save files individually or as a ZIP. The defaults are original dimensions and quality 85. File size is not always reduced, and metadata cannot be preserved.
What you can do
Convert to a format for web publishing
Save JPG as WebP. Check that your publishing destination accepts WebP before using it.
Adjust quality with a numerical setting
The default quality is 85. Change it in advanced settings if needed to check the balance between appearance and file size.
How to use
Add images
Select JPG files or add them from a folder.
Check output settings
WebP is already selected. Open advanced settings only if needed to change dimensions or quality.
Convert & save
Check the resulting images, dimensions and file sizes, then save them. You can also get multiple results as a ZIP.
When this is useful
Prepare photos for web pages
Prepare photos for sites that support WebP.
Compare file sizes to choose a format
Keep the JPG and create a WebP, then check the images and file sizes to choose the format to publish.
What conversion changes & what it keeps
More than changing the extension
Change how the image is stored to create a new WebP file. Renaming it alone does not convert it.
Limits on preserving metadata
This tool cannot preserve metadata in WebP output. Keep the original JPG too if you need that information.
Frequently asked questions
Will it always be smaller than the JPG?
This cannot be guaranteed. File size varies with the photo's content and quality, so check the resulting size.
What does quality 85 mean?
It is the compression quality setting for output. It does not guarantee 85% of the original image quality.
Can I use it instead of JPG everywhere?
Some apps and submission destinations do not accept WebP. Check whether the format suits your purpose.
